Kokotos Estate & their wines

Ktima Kokotos founded their ktima (Greek wine estate) in the late 1970s. The Kokotos family left the hustle and bustle of city life to seek tranquility in nature near the village of Stamata. They cultivate both international and indigenous Greek grape varieties in their organic vineyards, with the ambition to produce exceptional wines that capture the true essence of each grape. Nestled on the northern slopes of Mount Pendeli, where Dionysus was once worshipped, they planted their first vines in 1980.

Last summer, I had the pleasure of visiting them at their beautiful location just outside my favorite city, Athens, where they lovingly care for their wine grapes. On the day I visited, it started raining, which is unusual in August in Greece. Suddenly, panic broke out, because the grapes were ready for harvest, and their worst enemy at that time is rain. It can cause mold right up to the last minute. In the end, everything worked out well, and they have another beautiful new harvest, from which they can make delicious wines.

After tasting a variety of wines, particularly those made from the typical Greek grape varieties, I finally decided to place my first order. It was incredibly exciting, but I was so impressed with the quality that I knew immediately: I want to share this in the Netherlands!

It ultimately became a blend of Greek and French grape varieties. This way, I can gradually introduce you to Greek wines. Because believe me...the quality of Greek wine has really taken off in recent decades, and I want to share that with you.
